HAPPY DAY OF THE DUCK!!!

What is The Day of the Duck?
The Day of the Duck is a relatively new holiday with miscellaneous significance. Originating in the year 1993 the holiday initially had no purpose. Every year of its existance it is celebrated in a different way depending on the relative creativity of those who choose to observe it. In recent years The Day of the Duck has grown in meaning, becoming a time to remember and/or spend time with friends who have become increasingly hard to stay in touch with.
Why was The Day of the Duck initially created and how has it lasted so long?
One day, way back when I was still in highschool, my dear friend Susan Amrose said to me in passing, "Hey Heather, it's the Day of the Duck!" And thus the Day of the Duck was born. We can attribute its surviving so long, most likely, to the power of a random holiday to generate happiness in people, without obvious cause. Though in the beginning the holiday was only celebrated by Susan and myself the number of observers has grown to about five or six and it is still growing!
Why February the fifth?
Idunno. Just 'cuz, I guess...
How can I celebrate this new holiday??
There are several unique ways in which a person can observe February 5th. The list is constantly growing as people add their own individual traditions and rituals. Here are a couple ideas to get you started:
*Tell everyone you know that it's February Fifth. Smile and say "Happy Day of the Duck!" You may wish them good luck and shake their hand too if you like. Make sure to tell them to pass the word on to everyone they know.

*Post signs on all the walls of your workplace or school which let everyone know it is the Day of the Duck, a day of mirth and silliness.

*If you have a small duck, carry it around with you in your bag or on your shoulder or even, perhaps, on your head, granted you possess such skills of balance and animal husbandry.

*Call people you know and wish them a happy Day of the Duck. It is even a good idea to send cards with pictures of your choosing.

*Set aside some time on or near the Day of the Duck to catch up and spend time with those friends you don't get to see as often.

*Make a special effort to be happy and make the day special for other people as well as for yourself.

*Sing the Day of the Duck song.

*Watch Ducksoup.

*NEW! Celebrate with duck themed lolcat pictures, er "lolduck" pictures as it were, to make and share with friends! SRSLY! Cuz lolcats iz teh awesum!

What is the Day of the Duck song?
This is the poem inscribed in my yearbook by Susan long ago, which you can set to any tune you like:
Ducks will fly
Ducks will fall
Ducks will waddle down the hall.

Never forget Mr. Duck.
He will fall out of the sky
and give you fifty bucks.*
Then he might say `Hi'.

* Note: Don't be coming after me if you don't get your Grant. Take it up with the duck.
