Project #2: Video Ventriloquism
Re-mapping Audio and Video

1 Video, 1-3 mins. in length

Due Tuesday Nov. 29, 2005

The Assignment: Edit 1-3 mins. of video (images). Strip the original audio from it (unlink and delete) and replace it with new, odd or unexpected sounds.

The goal of this assignment is to transform your raw material/video through editing and juxtaposition. The possibilities are vast.
Take ordinary images and give them extraordinary sounds (or vice-versa)
Give images musical sounds, make a video image into an "instrument"
Make the video images communicate something they weren't supposed to communicate
Attach words/speech to things/people that weren't there before
Use repetition, speed, rhythm to punctuate the images
Pair video images with their audio opposites.
Pair video images of your mom with audio of your dad.
Pair images of speech with audio from the city streets.
Pair images of yourself with audio from a tv show.
Pair images of a question with an audio answer or an audio question

Have fun!

HOW TO DO IT:
1) Shoot video, appropriate video, compile a short visual narrative, sequence, question, poem, portrait...
2) Unlink the audio component of this video and delete it.
3) Collect audio pieces for insertion into your timeline with your video.
4) Edit those pieces into the timeline and coordinate them with the image.
