After spending our first day exploring Munich, we spent the next two on day trips to near-by sights. The first was to the city of Fussen, a city on the border of Austria and Germany, in order to see Neuschwanstein castle and the second was to Dachau concentration camp.

View of the Alps from inside the castle...imagine if you could see this spectacle from your bedroom windows every morning!

Me, on a bridge, with Neuschwanstein in the background. Neuschwanstein was supposedly the inspiration behind Walt Disney's Cinderella's Castle. Originally started by Ludwig II the last Bavarian king in 1886, it is still under construction today and one of the area's tourist havens. Ludwig was insane and obsessed with fairy-tales. He began the construction of this (his 8th or so castle) despite lacking the funds to build it...ah, power obsessed tyrants...

The day after going to Fussen, we hopped another train to tour Dachau concentration camp. The pictures do not do justice to the way the place felt, but I felt I should include a few just because it was the most emotionally charged sight of the entire trip. Picture one is of the main SS building and roll-call area, picture two shows where the barrack once were (they were destroyed after the war), picture three is self-explanatory, and the fourth is of one of the numerous monuments that have been built.

Bierhall!
