Spelling Challenge is a very simple game for young children who know their letters, but not much more. Pedagogical implications of the game are slight, but it will familiarize a child with the QWERTY keyboard layout and perhaps introduce the concept of assembling words from letters.
Download swf file.

When starting: position the browser window so you can see the whole gameboard, then *click once within the Flash app* If you do not click with the Flash App, the browser itself will respond to the keyboard arrows.

**If your monitor's settings result in the game area being too large for your display, in Firefox go to View/Zoom/ and Zoom Out to shrink your browser window.

-> Navigate the owl around the maze using the keyboard arrow keys.
-> When you run into one of the other characters --the ladybug, spider, skeleton or girl-- a popup with an image and a word will appear.
-> Spell out the word one letter at a time. When the word is complete you get a certain number of points.
-> Do it all over again.
