"My mission is to help counteract America's puritanical and negative history in
dealing with human sexuality. Joseph Campbell characterized ours as the most anti-natural
of the many cultures he had studied. I agree. It has been my goal to try and teach about
the reality of ALL aspects of sexuality as a natural part of our human nature. We
must move away from the incorrect notion that sex is only for reproduction. "
"Psychologically, the motivation for being sexual is to achieve pleasure, and human
beings will pursue pleasure in any way imaginable; opposite sex, same sex, groups,
animals, gadgets, etc. Since there are numerous pleasure receptors: on and in all parts of
the human body, how and when these will be stimulated is limited only by one's
imagination. It was very clever of evolution (or God) to ensure that among the many sexual
activities, there will be enough penises in vaginas to perpetuate the species! It is
therefore essential that sex education focus not only on the basic physiology but on how
to achieve pleasure through various approaches without risk or exploitation, i.e. SAFELY
AND RESPONSIBLY!! ""A balanced sexual education should
demonstrate how various cultural norms influence sexuality. Each of us should be aware of
the RISKS AND REWARDS of the myriad kinds of human sexual behavior. We need to
explore the concept of variability in all human traits and to reconsider what is
"normal". Sexual education should teach the meaning of "outercourse"
as an alternative to "intercourse". We should emphasize to our children that
although ALL thoughts, emotions and fantasies are possible, prevalent and
universal, the definition of a responsible adult is someone who knows which thoughts,
emotions and fantasies are OK to act on and which are not." Dr. Sylvia Hacker |
