Abstract of
Smith, G.R., and T.N. Todd. 1984. Evolution of species flocks of
fishes in north temperate lakes., p. 45-68 in A. Echelle and

Seven species of Great Lakes ciscoes, 25 species of Baikal
sculpins, 3 species of Bear Lake whitefish, and numerous coregonine
pairs in glaciated regions show intralacustrine differentiation by
segregation of spawning populations to different spawning times and
places. The driving force was probably competitive selection of
modal populations centered on zooplankton peaks in time and
space.
