Abstract of
Kelly, T.M., J.D. Jones, and G.R. Smith. 1975. Historical changes
in mercury contamination in Michigan walleyes (Stizostedion
vitreum vitreum). J. Fish. Res. Bd. Canada 32:1745-1754.
High levels of mercury contamination were found on Isle Royale,
Saginaw Bay, and Western Lake Erie. Some 1970s mercury
concentrations in great lakes walleyes were higher than those early
in the century except on Isle Royale, where natural mercury from
the metamorphic rocks cause high hg levels. Assay of preserved
tissue requires correction for 30% weight loss in alcohol.
