Abstract of
Smith, G.R. 1983. History of fishes of the Great Basin. Trans.
Bonneville Chapt. Amer. Fish. Soc. 1983:212-215.
Thirty-six species of fishes inhabit the hydrologically confined
great basin. These depauperate communities are the remnants of the
huge Pleistocene lakes whose cycles of transgression and regression
prevented evolution and accumulation of a rich fish fauna.
