The League of Nations

Created after WWI, the Covenant of the League was adopted as part of the Versailles Treaty. The goal of the League, as stated in the Covenant, was to "promote international co-operation and to achieve international peace and security." After WWII broke out, the League suspended all activities. The League officially dissolved in 1946. Many of the its goals and structure was passed on to the newly formed United Nations.
