The Center for Electronic Records of the National Archives has the Military Prime Contract Files (MPCF), FY1966-FY1975, in the Records of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Record Group 330). In general, the MPCF data files contain information about individual contracts of $10,000 or more awarded by the Department of Defense. We also have in our custody the Defense Contract Action Data System Files (DCADS), FY1976-FY1990 in Record Group 330. The Center for Electronic Records only recently received the DCADS data for FY1986 through FY1990 and they are currently being processed. Any request for copies of the DCADS for FY1986 through FY1990 would necessarily be delayed. In general, the DCADS files contain information on individual contracts of $25,000 or more awarded by the Department of Defense. All files include the value of the contract, name and location of contractor; SIC codes are recorded beginning with the DCADS FY1984 file. Copies of the MPCF and DCADS files and their accompanying documentation can be provided on a cost-recovery basis. For further information about the contents of these records, your patron may consider ordering a copy of the documentation pertaining to these electronic data files. Documentation for the MPCF series is available for $7.25 (29 pages @ .25 per page). Documentation for DCADS is quite voluminous, so we customize depending on the researchers needs. We currently provide copies of electronic records in our custody on either 9-track magnetic tape or on 3480-class tape cartridge. We provide only copies of full files. If your patron is interested in ordering a copy of any data file, please have him/her contact us for a price quotation and ordering instructions. I hope this information is useful.
