Please be aware that effective December 13, 1997, the (313) area code will change to (734) except for Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Lincoln Park, Allen Park, Melvindale, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Redford, Taylor, River Rouge, Hamtramck and Harper Woods. (I specifically called Ameritech to verify this change for the city of Ann Arbor, and confirmed that all Ann Arbor prefixes will change to the (734) area code). The change over period will extend until 7/25/98, after this date all calls must use the new (734) area code. Also,effective May 10, 1997 the area code for Oakland County, Michigan will change from (810) to (248). There will be a four month changeover period. On September 13, 1997, all calls to the new area code must be dialed using (248).
