Click here to --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -CITE- 14 CFR Sec. 61.83 -EXPCITE- Title 14 CHAPTER I SUBCHAPTER D PART 61 Subpart C -HEAD- Sec. 61.83 Eligibility requirements: Student pilots. -TEXT- To be eligible for a student pilot certificate, a person must - (a) Be at least 16 years of age, or at least 14 years of age for a student pilot certificate limited to the operation of a glider or free balloon; (b) Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language, or have such operating limitations placed on his pilot certificate as are necessary for the safe operation of aircraft, to be removed when he shows that he can read, speak, and understand the English language; and (c) Hold at least a current third-class medical certificate issued under part 67 of this chapter, or, in the case of glider or free balloon operations, certify that he has no known medical defect that makes him unable to pilot a glider or a free balloon.
