This individual fulfills a combination of responsibilities including serving at the Libraries’ main reference desk; participating as a member of the Outreach Committee; providing collection development services and serving as faculty liaison for the College of Business Administration and Agricultural Economics; serving as the Libraries representative to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The individual is expected to meet requirements for promotion and tenure. Summary of Duties: 25% - Administers the Patents Depository collection; activities include the provision of in-depth assistance and instruction, preparation of print and electronic guides; maintains Patent & Trademark web page; serves as the Libraries representative to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 20% - Provides general and specialized Reference and information services at a combined general Reference/government documents desk (may work nights and weekends); designs library instructional materials, conducts classes in information and retrieval methods, and designs Web pages for the College of Business Administration and Agricultural Economics. 20% - Serves as a selector and faculty liaison for the College of Business Administration and Agricultural Economics; assists in the physical management of the assigned subject collection; reviews approval programs; participates in liaison group activities; and writes collection development policies. 15% - Participates in the Reference department’s Outreach Committee; activities include discussion forums sessions; presentations for University organizations and non-affiliated groups; creating advertisements, brochures, and other promotional materials. Outreach activities include the promotion and marketing of Patent & Trademark resources and services to the LSU campus and local community. 15% - Works to meet requirements for promotion and tenure. 5% - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school; 12 hours undergraduate coursework in the areas of business and/or economics or one year related work experience; knowledge of traditional and electronic reference resources; strong computer skills, including the ability to create Web pages; ability to work both independently and collegially in a demanding and rapidly changing environment; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; evidence of ability to meet tenure requirements. Preferred: Graduate degree or graduate course work in business and/or economics; familiarity with current bibliographic and reference sources in business; experience in collection development, reference work, and/or bibliographic instruction in an academic library; record of ability to develop and implement effective, innovative public service, instruction, or outreach projects, services, or programs. Salary and Benefits: $34,000 per fiscal year minimum, dependent upon qualifications and experience; 12-month, tenure-track appointment; excellent benefits.
