           USPTO to Discontinue Official Gazette for Patents in Paper

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will discontinue the
publication of the paper version of the Official Gazette of the United States
Patent and Trademark Office - Patents. This title is being published
electronically on the Web at: <http://www.uspto.gov/main/patents.htm> and on
CD-ROM. The last issue of the paper edition of the Patent title will be
September 24, 2002.

The CD-ROM version of the Official Gazette for Patents will be classed C 21.5/1:
and will be distributed under item 0260-F. Libraries selecting Official Gazette
for Patents in paper or microfiche (items 0260-A or 0260-B) will have 0260-F
added to their item selection profile. Libraries may deselect the CD-ROM version
if they wish.

This change affects only the Patent title; the Trademark title continues in
paper.

GPO has arranged with USPTO to begin immediate distribution to depository
libraries of the CD-ROM version of the Patent title. Libraries will receive the
paper and CD-ROM until the paper ceases on September 24, 2002.
