Bill Indexes, Texts and Status.

If you are familiar with how to find bill indexes, texts and status, you can skip this section.

THOMAS

Web source: THOMAS indexes bills by subject, sponsor, committee, popular title, and stage reached in the legislative process since 1973.

It provides a digest or summary, the full text of the bill, and complete legislative status: that is, whether the bill is in committee, being debated, in conference, etc.

It can be useful for chosing a topic too, if the topic you want is not covered by Congressional Quarterly.

It is a good idea to print this information off. It will give you clues for further research.

Congressional Universe

Web source: Congressional Universe indexes bills since 1989 by keyword, sponsor, and bill number. It provides the full text and a complete legislative history.

It is only available to University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff from campus workstations, from home using the University's private Ann Arbor phone number, or through the remote server.

Congressional Quarterly

Print source: You can also use Congressional Quarterly to find bill numbers for major legislation. Its call number is: JK1.C12, and it is located in the Documents Center.
Web Source: The full text of Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report since 1983 is also available on the web. Use the search engine in the upper corner of the lefthand frame.

It is only available to University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff from campus workstations, from home using the University's private Ann Arbor phone number, or through the remote server.
