Automobile Mania!

Blinded in the Headlights

Elliott's dad works for PPG, and he sells glass to GM. SO, as a result he geets passes to the Auto show on industry days, before the official public openning when industry people come and take a look. Elliott was kind enough to finagle a few passes for me, Jeff, Kirk, and himself, and off we went.

Wow Kirk, get a load of this car. I'm amazed they let us sit in it!
I wonder what this button does?
Get out! Get out! Before the cops show up!
Why didn't you tell me we couldn't sit in it?!
I dunno, remember what happenned to the last car we sat in?
Oh hell with it all. Live for the moment!
Ah, fast cars, money, and chicks for free.

I should explain. The first picture is just what we were thinking. We were sitting in the James Bond special edition Mercedes Benz and not believing a word of it. It was set on a rotating display toward the back and there was no security, so we figured all was good. I was leaned over checking out the radio, pressing a fwe buttons, when all of a sudden . . .

This giant videowall, about 30ft high by 50 ft wide which seperated the car from the main display area openned up before our eyes, all with the appropriate warning buzzes. Kirk was frantic, demanding to know what security button I had tripped, while I was caught like a deer in the headlights as everybody on the main floor was looking up at us, caught redhanded.

So we quickly decided to evacuate the car, upon which Elliott was informed that NOBODY was allowwed to sit in that one, by a plainclothes security man. We beat a hasty retreat and were pretty shell shocked for the next few hours.
