Mariss

The Man

How I met Mariss is yet another mystery for my dull mind. Even during the time at Stuy I was lost as to how I met him. All I recall is how every now and then how I would see him at the subway after school. Well, also how I would spend those lunches on the balcony playing cards. But where it all began is lost to time. I suppose the most logical route would have been through Ben, since I think they were in the same homeroom. But the details are a story I suppose I shall leave to him.

Ah, but what stories there are of Mariss. There are all those hours we spent in the back of Sheldon's class arguing over the validity of the word gesphalt. All the while admiring how Abhay was trying to hit upon (what was her name). There was the time after school Mariss, Linda, and I (how or why is something I should check my journal) spent the night playing in Riverside park next to school. We broke into the playground and explored every square inch during the dark, that is until the park ranger dropped by and kicked us out. And then we had a mad snowball fight. I lost miserably due to my overcoat. Mariss won decisively due to his snowproof, snow resistant jacket. And Linda ended up somewhat in the middle until me and mariss ganged up on her. When we finally unburied her and myself from the deluge of white, we made a snowman the size of Linda. There was the time, shortly before school's end, when we were all supposed to meet in the park. I was looking for Anna, since we were some of the first people free, and was heading from Riverside Park to the BMCC Park when I ran into Mariss and some pretty girl who's name I forget. And they looked the charming couple, deep in conversation, so I didn't want to tear away Mariss on my silly search for Anna. And yet, when I mentioned my intentions in passing, a hurried sort of exchange, I discovered that he had torn himself out and was running away with me, the girl looking quite the shocked and alone. I later found out, it wasn't as deep a conversation as it had appearred, and he was quite grateful for the fast escape. There was the time when he was dating Linda, and one Friday afternoon we were just hanging around after school. Linda had mentioned a mad desire to walk from Queens to Manhatten, and I volunteered to join, as did Mariss. Fifteen minutes later what had started out, in Linda's words as "joking around" evolved into a spontaneous plan to hang out Saterday night. I think we got kicked out of two parks that night and found the Parthenon to hang around. Oh, the stories of Mariss to tell.

But most impressive is his acceptance to Cooper Union, which, if you don't know, is quite the selective school. I believe he is still in attendence there, and currently working on some some stage work (as in acting), as well as being a member of the engineering council.
