I will be joining the faculty of the School of Communication at the Ohio State University in the fall of 2007. I will be teaching in the areas
of communication & technology and research methods. In my research I will continue to examine online political communication, online news, and the ways in which citizens and activists use new technologies to
shape their engagement with contentious political topics. I am currently completing a two-year position as a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations (CRITO) at
the University of California, Irvine. My work at CRITO focuses on the role of information and communication technologies in the work environment and in local politics. I completed my Ph.D. at the
University of Michigan School of Information in June 2005. My dissertation examines whether individuals are using the control afforded by new ICTs to limit their exposure to information supporting viewpoints other
than their own. The work received the NCA's G.R. Miller Outstanding dissertation award, runner-up status in the ICA's Dordick Dissertation award, and honorable mention in a university-wide distinguished
dissertation competition in 2006. My committee was chaired by Paul Resnick; the other members of the committee included Paul N. Edwards, W. Russell Neuman (University of Michigan, Communication Studies), and Bruce
Bimber (UC Santa Barbara, Communication and Political Science). My complete CV is available here
