Faerie Ring

The Faerie Ring

Outwardly, the Faerie Ring looks like nothing more than a ring of woodland mushrooms. Inwardly, it is nearly as complex and powerful as the Pattern or the Logrus. Both the Pattern of Amber and the Logrus of Chaos were based on the Faerie Ring. It grants the Faerie Lords, and even the whole of Faerie, its power. Three times widdershins (counterclockwise) the applicant must walk the Faerie Ring for its full power to be conveyed. It is also recommended that the applicant speak the following rhyme, for there is Power in Words:

Walk you through the wood,

The first trip round grants the applicant the use of Faerie Magic*.

Mind your step and thought,

The second trip round grants power over the 'Tween**.

Wish you what you should,

The third trip round changes the applicant's true form and body to that of a Faerie and conveys immortality***.

Lest your soul be caught.

Any rounds after the third will merely confine the greedy applicant to the lands of Faerie forever and in servitude to the Crown; they would whither and die were they to be deprived of the land and the food of the Fae for too long.

*Faerie Magic

As described in "The Book of Spells", the walker now has a moderate command of Faerie Magic (20 pt. level).

**The 'Tween

The 'Tween, or "In-Between Lands", is what existed before the arrival of the Unicorn and the Serpent. It is the very fabric of Shadow, grey and formless, until one turns their thoughts upon it. Once concentrated on, it shapes its form into whatever the gazer wishes. It is the stuff that lies around, over, under, and in between all of Shadow. Only a true Faerie has access to it and they use it extensively for travel, popping out into any given shadow at any point they wish. Be warned: they do have to be in some contact with ground, water, plant or other item of Shadow. Should they be suspended in air, out of reach of anything, they would be helpless to access the 'Tween.

***On Becoming A Faerie

For mortals, this should not be undertaken lightly. After all, becoming an immortal Fae means watching all of those that you knew and loved wither and die while you live forever on. And while granting you all of the powers of a Fae, it also imparts to you their weaknesses, such as a faintness for all things mortals hold holy, the searing fire imparted by cold iron, as well as numerous other annoyances that are covered elsewhere.

(Note: All of the above information comes from the Book of the Fae, and the book itself resides in Auberon's castle. There are no copies. As such, a willing Faerie will need to be found to relay the above information, unless a way can be found to pinch the book from Auberon himself.)
