After the funeral and through the night, nothing special happens.

Breakfast.
In the morning, go to talk to Benedict and then to Bleys.
Leave castle for the brothel, to talk to Oscar about new orders. On
my way out, write a note to Benedict telling him that Vetch is missing and
that his Trump does not become cold. Take Rénard with me to the
brothel and lunch there.
Return to castle and go to practice room with Rénard and Eric.
Eric spars with me. He is preoccupied with tonight's dinner speech, in
which he will announce the coronation, confirmation of titles (Ronan,
Ishmael, Alex, Whimsy), and engagements (Ronan, Alex, Felix). The dinner
will be formal and will include representatives from the noble houses.
Eric thinks that certain noble houses will be quite upset by the
announcement of the coronation (Orsola and Feldane for certain, part of
Loretto, possibly Chantris, Bale, and Hersey).
Dress very carefully for dinner (spending another setting on Brand
clothes). The dress is low-cut and elaborate. Have Eric carry
Rénard down to dinner.
When we reach the mingling area, Eric is cornered by Leto. He
gives me Rénard. I take him and go to talk to Lord Orsola (I know
him well from the brothel). Introduce him to Rénard and point out
that he is Eric's son. Mention that Nicholas will be confirmed as king.
He mentions that Ronan is Eric's heir. I say that hardly matters for
several reasons.
Go over to Ariana/Tamaryn/Felix/Ishmael. Rénard plays with
Jalana. Ask if Ariana's heard from Vetch. No. She seems odd. Resort to
asking Tamaryn about the wedding. Irene Feldane comes over, is
introduced, seems fixated on Tamaryn in a somewhat disturbing way.
I get stuck at the low-rank table at dinner - far from Eric, who
is with Leto. The announcements are made. The coronation will be Sept.
6. There will be a grand ball Aug. 29 in conjunction with the
confirmations and to celebrate the engagements.
There is a dance post-dinner, for which I do not remain. Leave,
change to assassin garb, get sword, and go back to brothel with
Rénard. Stay up and go over accounts, check out information gathered.
In the wee hours there is a Trump call from Eric saying that there
has been an attack on Leto's child. I pull him through to the brothel and
give him the story about poisoning Lucretia to make her uncomfortable at
the castle. He accepts this and says that now he has an excuse to send
Leto away to a Shadow. He remains at the brothel.
Thursday, August 24, 2994
Around 5 a.m. Eric gets a Trump call. He dresses to head to the
castle. Laughter and Foster have been attacked. I go with him, leaving
Rénard with Alexandra.
Arrive at castle just as Fiona is questioning Brand. Ona arrives
by Trump to check both Brand and Clarissa's minds. She says that Clarissa
was hit by Brand earlier but is guiltless. She tries to read Brand and he
drops through the floor. Apparently, while Clarissa was knocked out, a
switch was made. Ariana Trumps Nicholas to say that Jack is in the castle
and headed toward the basement.
Eric teleports with me to the Pattern room. Swords out. We wait.
After a while, Ariana comes through the ceiling. I throw a dagger at her
and cause her to drop 10 feet to the floor. We break it to her that Brand
is gone. She starts to fall through the floor...it is obvious that she is
not controlling the fall. As she disappears, she calls to us to guard her
children.
Benedict arrives with guards. Eric and I Pattern teleport to
Ariana's room. Eric knocks. Anne opens the door and lets us in. We
count children and Eric wakes them to talk to them. We tell them what
happened to their mother. I Trump the brothel and get Morgan and
Rénard. Also Alexandra. Send children with Morgan, Anne and
Alexandra down to breakfast.
Eric Trumps Nicholas. Ona and Clarissa are out looking for Brand.
I join the children. After breakfast, we go out to the garden. Ishmael
joins us around 9 a.m., looking for the children. At this point Ariana
and Vetch appear. Ariana has regained her scent.
I speak with Ariana and Vetch briefly, then go to look for Bleys.
Viktoria tells me that he is out on the hunt for Brand. I go see
Nicholas, instead. Bleys has spoken to him and he gives me the
information on the quest.
