[thanks to the Random House unabridged.] 'nuff said. Hail, hail, the gang's all here! Our intrepid adventurers arrive victoriously in the Main Hall of Castle Amber, and the moment is spoiled when this chronicler and the gamemaster have a disagreement as to who's jurisdiction Heather's fainting falls under. When the matter is finally resolved, to no one's satisfaction, Ahab stashes the Trump Trap with Random, on the basis that the man is King after all, and takes Heather to the infirmary. She awakens en route and points out to the gamemaster that she was supposed to stay unconscious long enough to achieve some sort of mental epiphany. This chronicler sulks for the rest of the evening, so if something isn't reported very accurately, it is entirely due to a sullen lack of attention. Ariana gets help. Medical, that is. Felix goes to his room. Alex winds up at Mebd's, apparantly confused; good thing she wasn't there to witness it. Shard stands drooling in the Hall. Gerard "explains" to Felix that he is his father, but he keeps calling him Luke and enjoining him to give in to the Dark Side. Ahab torments Deirdre some more. Actually, no. She makes him fondle her underwear (?). They run off into Shadow together. She leads. Ariana gets fixed. Alex stands outside Random's room for a while. Bored (gee, why?), he decides to spy on the King with his Logrus tentacles, but that idea gets nipped in the bud. Ariana sees Mandor enter the infirmary. He sits next to Heather. She can't quite figure why. Random's lecture lets out, and Alex watches his superiors file out. He can't think of anything much to say, so Random tells him that he's now the Senior Ambassador from Chaos, the former one having achieved significance. Ahab shows off for his mom, forgetting momentarily her nasty, suspicious ways. Also her deep-rooted paranoia. And her hot and cold personality. It is some time before they actually leave Amber. Ariana goes to Dworkin's lab but decides on the library instead, on the basis that at least she can get in there. Alex goes to his room and engages in secret stuff, a form of stuff unavailable to those who aren't from Chaos. Felix visits Ariadne, because his life was starting to make sense. He cuts her hair, so she takes him for eclairs in the kitchen. Somehow this was supposed to result in a sword. Oh, there it is! Yeah, they went Shadow-walking, and Felix deprived some Shadow of its saviour. Or some junk. In a touching scene, Ahab asks Deirdre's permission to use and abuse a Chaosite. She agrees so he'll go away. Oh, Heather had gone to the gardens with Mandor and they talked about something, but all this chronicler noted is that he took a piss. Heather goes to see Brand. He's too busy reading, but he makes the time to order her about. She takes his book away, but she does as he asks. Ariana Trumps Dworkin. He is unresponsive to her requests. Brand sees the error of his ways, but that just makes them more enjoyable. Heather watches Mirelle go quietly insane. Ariana arranges to see Random after dinner. Alex uses the Logrus to locate the grimoire that he lost along with his head. Felix sees Flora about attending a college. She agrees to help, but only if she can get him to pal around with Merlin. Ariana asks Gerard about Med School, but he doesn't think she should socialize at all. Felix and Merlin go to school. Dworkin returns to Amber, but he's always frowned on socializing. A war ensues, and Amber misses the cheer which always signalled the presence of Benedict and Eric. Corwin disappears, and no one cares. No one but Ahab, that is, but not yet. First he sees about shmoozing with his Aunt's, both of which fall for his sappy line. Later, he finds out why. Ahab goes to the Tir, and he sees many things, many of which are likely apocryphal: things like Deirdre trying to evict him, Dworking shooting her, etc. Alex locates the grimoire. It's in Mandor's room. Mandor's off fighting in Chaos. Alex takes the darn thing. Mebd is unhappy that Heather went with Mary to Driscoll's Shadow, so Alex offers to mind-fuck her, which he proceeds to do. Merlin and Felix sail. Bleys is around occassionally, as is Llewella. Brand and entourage depart for parts unknown and unasked. Gerard decides to help Mirelle's mind. Heather discovers, after two months, that she has caught motherhood again. Mandor, still clueless, sends her a note with a raven every Friday, but she waits until TGIF is through to read them, because those twins are just too funny. And that Urkle kid, wow! Eventually, he stops writing. It is at this point that Ahab delivers his gifts to Fiona and Flora, with the effects as mentioned above. Ariana finds Ahab, and they presumably talk for a time. Alex does secret stuff, the first part of which does not work, although the second does. He makes fun of Kimdyl for staying in Amber, even though he himself has no yearning for home at the moment. Felix meets Julia, revealing that the second series may happen yet. Murine finds Felix, revealing her bosom and frying his brain. Heather Trumps Mandor, but he still won't respond, so she sics Driscoll on him. She is, btw, five months gone at this point. Ahab and Ariana pound some metal. Um, Ahab gives his present to Fiona now, as described above... Ahab takes Kimdyl out and eats her in. Ariana walks the Pattern, apparantly thinking she's Ahab. She tries to get inside her head, and the Pattern strongly suggests that she try drugs, they're safer. She tries it again, anyway. Er...Alex collects Mebd for their journey at this point. Murine leaves Felix. Felix returns to Amber. Ahab and Kimdyl flatten the mattress and press the sheets. Heather gets Trumped by Driscoll. He says that it's okay, Mandor's just gravely injured, that's all. Relieved, she comes through, and Mandor is the only one who can't figure out how come she's so round. He says it can't get worse. She explains how it can. Ahab becomes secretive and leads a double life. Ariana wakes up, and at last meets Dworkin. He calls her stupid and goes away. Gunpowder no longer works in Amber; it just roams about in listless gangs. The Jewel of Judgement returns, and although Random claims he had it all along, most realize that he's lying. Corwin meets both of the Rose Ghosts, and they speak in terms that even he can understand. Ahab finds Kimdyl, who's crying. He asks what's wrong. She's pregant, she eventually gets him to realize. He still wonders what's wrong. Felix returns at this time. Ahab has already given his gifts to his aunts. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to tell you if you missed it the first....er, three times. Murine returns at this time. Felix leans heavily on the wall, as he realizes that she brought their 10 year old son. Ahab proposes to Kimdyl, figuring it couldn't hurt. He explains that it's certainly convenient. She cries harder. well, that's all i can stand. good night.
