Session Four

I was right to choose the Gardens to do my remaining spell research. I needed to get away from the family to relax. After a bit of studying, I went horseback riding to Arden with Teresa and we talked about a great many things. What to say...I'm less than happy about what I've learned. Jack, dear Jack, is the avatar of Faerie. Teresa somehow never got around to telling neither myself nor mother. Teresa has, by the way, fled Amber, realizing that Fiona's retribution will be a trifle unpleasant. I should have left with her.

Jack also can't teach me High Compellings. From the tone Teresa used I would gather that Faeries have some problem with Conjuration magic; else why couldn't he know such magic? How terribly irritating. I would have gladly let him in to wreak havoc without this tiresome little lie. It bothers me that he felt he had to deceive me about something so unimportant. Teresa believes that mother can teach me this, though, so it's not a complete loss.

After we went our separate ways, I stayed in Arden to finish my research, not leaving for Castle Amber until nightfall. When I got back, my little spirit had fled, and Elaine was gone, leaving only a brief not that Ishmael had come to see and forced his way into my quarters. How tiresome. I stayed up late working on a little something for Elaine. She's not going to be very useful if she can't keep people from pestering me. Perhaps a magical corset would work...something that grants resistance to injury and phenomenal strength. That should keep Ishmael out of my hair. I have half a mind to avoid him for days, just to see how much I can irk him.
