She lacks entirely her son's calculating patience, although I now know for a certainty how he came to so well ape obsequity. No truer genuine source has yet been found. Perhaps another time I shall force from her Alex's heritage, but is enough for now that I have given him something to think about. I will make his bait more tempting and see what effect that produces. More interesting was my father's offer of assistance in my bid for the Fount. I was certain he would object. He may still. It shall be a challenging game, I do not doubt; there is no way he will let this happen without obstruction. I am not foolish enough to believe in free gifts. That is a consideration for later, however. First I must accomplish his release. Actually, that shall probably be readily achieved, tying up another bit of business as well. My only outstanding concern is Lord Vetch. I believe that I know his motives, but I do not see anything in them that is furthered by my involvement. He is smart enough to realize that, I am certain. So what the hell is he really after? I may have to consider ending our arrangement. The best way of ensuring that is also the most dangerous: calling his bluff. Life is so complicated. It makes me glad that Mandor stopped me.
