There exist five swords that could be described as Pattern swords, each with differing powers and potential. The art of forging Pattern blades was known only to a few, including: Benedict, Bleys, Brand, Corwin, Dworkin and Oberon...all of whom are believed dead at this time.
The true power of a Pattern blade is its ability to damage a foe in such a way that his or her supernatural abilities cannot immediately heal the wound. The stability of the Pattern works in such a way as to make the wound permanent...resisting all attempts to change (or heal). For more information on the distinctions between 2, 4, 8, and 16-point damage, please consult the QOA: Damage Rules.
Forged by Brand, also known as the Daysword. Werewindle was created to protect its wielder, a man not accustomed to melee combat. Like all Pattern blades, the sword unleashes terrible damage upon all struck by it, but it also protects its wielder from physical damage. Furthermore, by concentrating on the sword, the wielder can be transported to a place of safety. Werewindle is currently in the possession of Selena of Sawall.
[Supernatural Damage: 8; Contains Trump Image: 1; Invulnerability to Damage: 2; Confer Quality: 5]
Forged by Corwin, also known as the Nightblade. Greyswandir contains more raw destructive potential than any other Pattern blade, for Corwin devoted it to the sole purpose of destroying his enemies. Of all the blades, only Greyswandir possesses the potential to cut through magical barriers and Logrus tendrils. Furthermore, its destructive energies can also instantly destroy conjured objects. Greyswandir is currently in the possession of Robert Marcellus of Amber.
[Primal Damage: 16]
Forged by Bleys, also known as Spellbane. Auriclave possesses the ability to cast spells independently of its wielder, and its spells are based in the Pattern. Furthermore, Auriclave can absorb spells directed at the wielder. Auriclave is currently in the possession of President Gawain Llewellan of Arcana.
[Supernatural Damage: 8; Spell Engine: 8]
Forged by Benedict, given to Katrina on her 18th birthday. Like Greyswandir, the sword Perseverance is potent in that it is dedicated to a single task, that of destroying one's opponents. Though it lacks the power of Greyswandir, it has been enchanted to alter the rules somewhat, such that the blade always seems to find the weak spot in an enemy's armor or shields. Perseverance remains in the possession of Katrina of Amber.
[Supernatural Damage: 8; Able to alter Shadow stuff: 2]
Forged by Benedict, given to Maximillian on his 18th birthday. The weakest of the Pattern blades, Caution's lack of potency stemmed from Benedict's ambivalence towards his grandson; simply put, he did not pour his heart into the blade. Destructive as all Pattern blades are, Caution is also enchanted to warn its wielder of impending danger. This blade disappeared around the time Maximillian came into contact with the Sufferers' Guild, and it is believed destroyed.
[Supernatural Damage: 8; Sensitivity to Danger: 2]
