Currently the Courts are divided into two separate entities, called Thelbane and Donegal, as a result of a recent civil war. According to the treaty agreement, the two are to remain separate until Shaenan is replaced as Emperor of Thelbane - something that doesn't look like it will be happening any time soon.
A word about surnames. In the Courts, one's house often serves as one's last name, but there is a distinction between using simply the name of the house and referring to one's self as 'of' a particular house. Only very prominent members of a House may omit the 'of'. For example, as Duke, Mason is called Duke Mason Hendrake, whereas Kendral would be called Lord Kendral of Hendrake.
Baalam Amblerash - Current Head of House Amblerash and Duke of Cerelaine. Baalam is the only son of Bances Amblerash, the former High Priest of the Serpent. Baalam took control of his house after his father's death, and upon the return of Shaenan, vowed his House's loyalty to the crown.
Caitlin Amblerash - Actually Katrina of Amber, in the body of Mirelle
Cedric Minobee - Son of Belissa and Lars Minobee, brother to Rhees Minobee. Cedric lives on the border of Cainsmarsh and Donegal in a manor house/border fortress called Oak's End.
Dara Helgram Sawall - Benedict's great-granddaughter originally declared herself an enemy of Amber, but later returned to aid Oberon during the Patternfall War. Dara bore two children of Corwin, Shaenan and Merlin, and had several other children by her husband Gramble. Following the end of the Abyss War, Dara was trapped in Skeltland. When some of the links between Shadows were restored, she returned to House Helgram, as she could not gain entrance to Sawallways. After the Emperor's return, she became Head of House Helgram for a time, until her tongue was removed by Frakir. Unable to speak the sorcery that was her primary power, she was soon deposed and now dwells in the Summer Palace with Empress Sarah. (Trump)
Despil - The former Emperor of Chaos, son of Gramble Sawall and Dara Helgram Sawall, husband of Lady Rowan of Jesby, father of Stead, Jonathan and Lenore. A friend of Gawain's, Despil never did give Llateri the full support she desired, even though she and Mandor were instrumental in putting him on the throne. When the Abyss War began and her treachery was revealed, Despil gathered his family and fled to Avignon, where he was granted asylum by Adam and Lylesberg. Afterwards, he was returned to Chaos by Cerridwen and reclaimed his throne with the support of Houses Sawall, Helgram, Jesby, and Chanicut. Unfortunately, Despil went mad upon assaying the new Logrus and was replaced on the throne by his brother Shaenan...or so everyone believed. A select few, including Shaenan, know the truth...that Despil faked his insanity in a bid to give up the throne and be left in peace. (Trump)
Elinore of Chanicut - Wife of Stead. Elinore's wedding to Stead was a very brief affair, and a marriage of political convenience. When Stead fled to Avignon from Amber, Elinore was stranded in Chaos with their daughter, Nessarose. She believed that Stead died during the Abyss War but did not remarry. When he returned much later, she was overjoyed, and when he ascended to Head of House Jesby, she became Lady Jesby. Crushed by his unexpected death, she returned to Chanicut and has been keeping to herself.
Gwydion of Jesby - Minor noble of House Jesby, lover of Rhees Minobee, the Head of House Minobee.
Jerika of Hendrake - Dame Jerika is the pre-eminent sorceress of House Hendrake, and serves as advisor to the Duke on many matters.
Jonathan Sawall - Check the players page
Kendral of Hendrake - Lord of House Hendrake, son of Nicolo Hendrake and Jaelithe of Coruscant, half brother to Dara Helgram Sawall. A traditional Hendrake who distinguished himself in Patternfall, Kendral stood high in his house before the Abyss War, and with the recent losses, now stands higher still. He is known to be an advisor to Mason Hendrake, the Head of House, and it is said that he greatly regrets the separation of Houses Minobee and Hendrake, and works to mend the conflict that caused the schism between them.
Luccia of Minobee - A Hellmaid of some note. She is a friend of Rhees Minobee and has no special dislike of the Hendrakes, going so far as to flirt with Kendral on occasion.
Mason Hendrake - Current Head of House Hendrake and Duke of Cardiff. Mason is the eldest son of the former Duke, who was killed during the Abyss War, and took control of his house with the support of the Emperor. Through this action, House Hendrake, which had historically been opposed to House Sawall and Swayvill, vowed a renewed loyalty to the crown...a loyalty that did not prove to be lasting, as they sided with those opposed to Shaenan during the civil war
Melanie Chanicut - Check the players page
Momus Jesby - Head of House Jesby, son of Theocritus, a fact known only to a very few. Imprisoned in stone for making unflattering remarks about Swayvill's taste in consorts, Momus has only recently been restored from his magical imprisonment through the efforts of Cerridwen. An art critic well-known for his venomous analyses of art and culture in the Courts, Momus' return did exactly thrill the older members of House Jesby and Amblerash. After the death of Duke Stead (a death Momus was involved in), Momus was appointed to Head House Jesby by Emperor Shaenan. (Trump)
Nessarose Chanicut - Daughter of Stead and Elinore, Head of House Chanicut. Born shortly before the Abyss War, Nessarose was considered a Chanicut instead of a Jesby due to Jurt's failure to fulfill Dara's agreement with Chanicut before his death. Nessarose and her mother were left behind in Chaos when Despil and Stead fled to Avignon at the beginning of the Abyss War. Raised in Chaos and trained by Dara Helgram Sawall, Nessarose is rumored to be a formidable sorceress. Upon Shaenan's return to Chaos, he appointed her temporary ambassador to Amber, and arranged for Cerridwen to transport her to Amber. She had barely begun her tenure when Stead was returned to Chaos, and she was summoned home. With Sarah announcing her engagement to the Emperor soon after, Nessarose was selected to become the next Head of House Chanicut. (Trump)
Noah Helgram - New Head of House Helgram after Dara's removal. Little is known of him as yet, save that he has been a rather vocal critic of Jonathan Sawall. This is considered somewhat unusual, given that he is so new to his own position. There has been speculation that he is allied with Swayvill, or that Swayvill is controlling him, but there has been no proof of this as yet.
Rhees Minobee - Current Head of House Minobee and the Duchess of Donegal. Rhees is the daughter of Belissa Minobee and was appointed as the Head of her house by Shaenan after the Abyss War. (Trump)
Sarah Chanicut - Widow of Delwin, mother of Derrick, wife of Shaenan, Empress of Chaos. Sarah has the distinction of being one of the oldest Chaosians living, as it is known that she pre-dated Swayvill's ascension to the throne. She became Head of House Chanicut in return for supporting Swayvill, and ruled ever since, until her marriage to Shaenan. Little is known of her marriage to Delwin, save that they had a son named Derrick, who was raised in the Courts and left upon reaching adulthood. Sarah underwent a period of madness following her exposure to the Logrus, but she recovered sufficiently so as to resume her duties in House Chanicut, and then later as Empress. (Trump)
Shaenan Sawall [ Philip Brenner ] - Son of Prince Corwin and Dara Helgram Sawall, twin brother to Merlin, Father of the Spider, Emperor of the Courts of Chaos. After the tragic loss of his brother, Emperor Despil, Shaenan saw no choice but to assume the throne himself and keep it safe for Despil's son Jonathan. He later merged with the Spider, and has become something...very disquieting. It is suspected that he ate the entire staff of Thelbane after his transformation. People don't go to Thelbane anymore. (Trump)
