Session Twenty-two
"I wouldn't have shot you, until you took the gun away."

Lilith appears by a chasm on a barren plain. No signs of life, so
she steps on the platform. It takes her across the chasm to a cave.
There's light at the end, so she walks towards it, appearing in a sunny
forest. The whole place is seems to be an advanced construct, and her
Trumps are warm. There is a path through forest. She shifts for a horse,
finds a platform instead, gets on, and floats down the path.

Back in Amber, Colin says that he's Regent. Gabriel says, "Nope,
Gerard is." Whatever. Colin doesn't press the point.

Lilith's platform floats up to a castle. Still no living
creatures. It settles by the drawbridge, which falls. She enters, and
finds two sets of stairs going down into a cavern. She takes the right
one. In the middle of the cavern is a 50-foot Pattern and Logrus. Random
is floating between them, doing something to the Pattern. He is surprised
that it's her. She tells him that Alastair has been trying to nark on
him. Yeah, Alastair and his fellow cabalists have talked to him, too.
Alastair was trying to borrow the Jewel. Random borrowed it to keep
others from getting it, and to destroy Brand's Pattern. She asks who the
shapeshifters are. Four elders are meddling, two are shapeshifters, one
of whom is trying to save her, the other of whom is trying to kill her.
Random is neutral. He's had a close encounter with one of them, and
intimates that Alastair knows who they are. He's somehow getting Logrus
and Pattern energies to work together to destroy whole Shadows. Neat. He
pushes her back to the chasm with the Logrus.

The cabal checks on Lilith, but she's in a no-Trump Shadow, so
they can't reach her.

Alastair Trumps Bleys and goes through to "touch base." Bleys has
heard that Lilith is missing, relocated by a talented Trump master.
Alastair thinks it was the shapeshifter with that power. No, Bleys thinks
he was distracted. Having a tiff with one of his siblings, actually.
Pity that Lilith's lost the two objects that protect her from that sort of
thing.

Alastair chats with Colin, and mocks his non-Regentness. Alastair
is Trumped by Duncan (or is he, he had a lot of help). Alastair
determines that Duncan was in the library, so he goes there with Colin.
Everyone in the room is who they are, although Colin fluctuates a lot.
Alastair also finds a Trump concealed in a shelf. It looks like a younger
version of Oberon. Sean examines it, and finds that it's blocked in a way
that he doesn't understand. He visualizes a new one, but it's still
blocked. The Trump is drawn in Dworkin-style. Alastair checks the secret
passage - three people have used it in the last 24 hours. There are blank
spots on the shelves, but he doesn't know what's missing. Sean says the
Trump's been inactive for 100 years. He forces a contact with it and
passes out. Yay.

Lilith tries to Pattern teleport to Amber, and winds up in an
empty castle. She Trumps Colin, but it doesn't work.

Alastair thinks of something and leaves. Duncan explores the
passage to the Pattern. Colin tries and fails to Trump Lilith. Sean
offers to "help." Still no joy. They get a brief image of a castle.
Maybe Alastair could help. Pity he left.

Duncan gets lost in the Hall of Mirrors.

Alastair finds a Shadow where Pattern doesn't work. He Trumps
Sean, who swaps Colin for Alastair. They fake an attempt to reach him.

Colin Trumps Lilith, fails, then Trumps Rasa, who pulls him
through. She's just barely on the Amber side of Ygg. He teleports back
to Amber, and conjures 20 pounds of bricks over Alastair's head, then
blames Sean for dumping him in Shadow. Sean claims innocence. Colin
pulls his gun and shoots at Alastair. Sean Trumps the gun to him, and it
blows a hole in his hand. He begins shooting at Colin, hitting his
shoulder and leg. Colin conjures a shield. Duncan enters after the
gunshots, and wonders what's going on. Sean teleports the shield away,
and shoots Colin in the leg again. Duncan breaks this up, and suggests
that they go to the infirmary. While "helping" Colin, he knocks him out,
ties him up, and locks him in a closet. Sean then teleports Colin back to
that no-Pattern Shadow. Colin conjures a knife and frees himself, but
neither Rasa nor Suhuy are answering Trump calls.

Gabriel hears Duncan's report, which blames everything on Colin.
Gabriel summons the cabal, and asks what they did with Colin. Sean claims
nothing. Gabriel draws his sword. Sean tries to Trump Gabriel away, but
the attempt bounces off Gabriel's sword, so he continues to pretend
ignorance. Gabriel decides not to kill Sean (since Gabriel's an NPC right
now), and sends the cabal away. Then he Trumps Colin and pulls him
through. Sean finds them together, and tries to Trump Colin away. No
dice. Colin devises a spell that prevents Trump from working on him.
Sean discusses the situation with Alastair, who suggests getting Farad's
help. Farad wants to know why he should help. It will create Chaos.
Cool! Farad appears in the infirmary, and removes Colin's spell, which
has the side effect of causing an indoor downpour. Colin feels his spell
die, grabs Gabriel, and conjures an umbrella. Farad finds this
interesting, and adds marshmallow bunnies. Colin conjures a carrot, which
they follow. Farad conjures a lot of flowers, which knock Colin away from
Gabriel. Sean proceeds to Trump Colin to a lava Shadow. Gabriel yells
for Farad, who vanishes.

Colin conjures an asbestos suit to protect himself from the lava.
Lilith gets Suhuy to help her return to the Lighthouse of Cabra via
Logrus, Ygg, and a remnant of the Black Road. Once there, Lilith Trumps
Colin, who is eager to come through. He fills her in on the surrealness
that is Amber at present.
