Diary 18 The jewel is once again Random's. For the first time since Finndo stood on the battlements, I begin to have a little hope. Now I feel like I can step back; play a supportive role, while Random directs his own reascension to the throne. The timing couldn't be better. Laughter is proving to be distracting. It's hard to remember the last time I abandoned battle plans for the sake of a woman, but when she disappeared back to Foil, after she knew that Tianen had been the woman she knew as Lyria, and could very well still be there for all we knew, I quickly left Ulysses to his own devices to retrieve the wayward girl. At least she snapped quickly to her senses when reminded of the danger. I would have been happy, though, had she not brought the Primal Chaos through with her. Random, being the overconfident cock he was meant to be, stood before it, the jewel pulsing wildly, determined is some wildly vain way to hold it off on his own. And I stopped in mid flight to watch the show; whether for fear for him, or the great glee I would have derived had he fallen on his face, I can't be sure of. I was robbed of either, as Corwin waltzed in at the last moment to save the day. I wonder when I will forgive Random Morganthe's death. I thought I had as his blood slipped through my fingers on the battlements... but then it begins to nag at me again. At least I got him to talk to Martin. I haven't spoke with Martin yet and it galls me that I have no better excuse for it than Random once had. And then there's Laughter. A strange girl to be sure, but I've never fallen for ordinary women. I guess I'd be a little less nervous if planting metaphors hadn't run so wildly rampant in the night we spent together. Who am I kidding? Amberites aren't known for their outstanding fertility. If they were, Ulysses could gather his children up and start his own bloody universe. No, not worth spending a lot of time on unless you have to. I mean, she obviously knows when I should leave her alone and would say so, right? Yes, well, there are other things to worry about now. At least Jubal seems to be in the situation to have some of his missing past filled in and Random even obliged him with a bit of privacy this time. I hope he doesn't here anything that he doesn't want to. It will, however, be interesting to see what happens next, on more than one front.
