Random still plans on sending us after Benedict. I leave the growing frustration and head out into the hall for a smoke. Random steps out shortly after that with a pretty heavy expression. He's actually in fear of his throne. I guess Caine, Julian and Bleys have been making enough noise to make him nervous. Apparently they weren't pleased with the Unicorn's decision. That's why Random sent them all off on errands and why he wants Benedict found ASAP. The three of them won't be likely to bite if Benedict's in the castle. Random goes on to say that we're to find Benedict at all costs and that he's putting me in charge. I'm to watch the others. If they endanger the mission, I'm to deal with them in whatever means I see fit. I spend a good part of the night conjuring a decent sword. In the morning I set to gathering my cousins. I have to send a page off after two of them. I'll give Laughter and Sandr an hour and then I'll leave without them. Laughter and Jubal make it. Random sends Laughter off after Ulysses. He summons Sandr himself with the Jewel. Sandr has got to have the worst instincts I have ever seen. Hope he wasn't expecting to live a long life. He actually brought up the subject that he hadn't bothered to pay fealty to Random yet, so Random demands it. Sandr declines and I have one less person to watch. Ulysses walks in with a plan. It proves to be less than useful as both Ulysses and Sandr were rendered unconscious. I don't think I will ever be capable of relying on the Pattern to the extent other of my relatives do. I just don't see the pay off- other than Sandr's teleporting ability, and that's useful, but not a necessity. Hypotheses continue to be tossed around but we still end up hellriding sans Sandr. I know we're getting close when the battles start increasing in number and intensity. When I find Benedict, I head down to the battle. Just mop up by now. I wouldn't expect less. And then I spend the last half hour of the fight kicking myself for leaving Laughter and Ulysses with the most dangerous of my charges. When I get back to the top of the embankment, I find he's left them in one piece. Laughter assumes I'm showing off. She's miffed that I have to talk to Bendedict in private as well. If she had been privy to the information I had, she wouldn't be. It wasn't my decision not to share it with her. Laughter's mood improved somewhat as the night wore on. Enough that I felt somewhat guilty for earlier thoughts. And who am I kidding? I just as much of a fucked up bastard as most of them are. I'm just better at hiding it.
