At the current growth rates, it is estimated that the amount of land available to feed each American will be 0.6 acres in 2050. At that level, if Americans maintain the same diets they have today, the U.S., currently the world's largest food exporter, will need to be a food importer. This will cause food prices to skyrocket in the U.S., a loss of billions of dollars of export income to the U.S. economy, and starvation around the world.
