How right you are!
In December, 1999, the town of Halfway, Oregon (population 360),
announced that it will change its name to Half.com in collaboration with a Philadelphia
Internet start-up already called Half.com, thus becoming the first dot.com city
namesake in U.S. history. The town expects to receive incentives including free
internet access for six months plus it hopes to boost tourism. The company is
providing the incentives and marketing efforts because it "wanted to put
our name on the map."
