Weberville, California, has nothing to do with the World Wide
Web, but it had everything to do with an earlier vision of the future. In 1849,
near where gold had been discovered at Sutter's Mill, Charles Weber and his
partner, William Gulnac, started a store and then a town, Weber's Camp or Weberville.
Unlike Stockton, which Weber also founded, Weberville was one of the many towns
that failed to survive beyond the excitement of the Gold Rush.
