In 1997, Dr. Ian Wilmut of the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh,
Scotland, announced the birth of Dolly the Sheep, a clone produced from an ordinary
cell of an adult sheep. This set off a debate about the ethics of cloning and
the limits, if any, to the human control of our future.
