Pong, released for the Atari in 1975, not only increased the
market demand for computers but became the first game to be set up for use by
the paying public, thus creating the video arcade industry and building a demand
for ever better games. Although the Magnavox Odyssey 100, released in 1972,
is an earlier game, it did not have a fraction of the commercial and cultural
effect of Pong.
