Lake Superior Provincial Park

Again, I think I thought I saw some faint pictographs up there, but now I can't remember where or what

A faint pictograph of a deer or elk

At the recommendation of a park ranger, I was barefoot on the rock for better grip

Another view of the scenery -- and check out the hiker who wasn't brave enough to climb out on the rock snapping his own picture

Four canoes with (faint) clan symbols -- each family in a tribe belongs to a clan, which is almost like a sub-tribe.

A close up of the top canoe and the crane and eagle clan symbols. They think these canoes represent a war party led across the lake by Chief Myeengun in the mid-1600s during a war with the Iroquois.

I couldn't decide if that was an unmarked pictograph behind the water or just some red rock

I think this is another one where I thought I saw something, but now I can't remember what it might have been.

Looking behind at the waves crashing on to the rock. (The darker rock is wet from a wave that had just splashed me a bit.)

My barefoot and a wave

I don't know why I took this picture -- to see the big rocks in the water, maybe?

The (habited) island

Looking up the corner of the cliff

On the completely zoomed in version of this picture, I can kind of make out what I thought might be a faded canoe pictograph under the yellow fungus

Another view of the rock

The English version of the plaque description of the pictographs

The same text in Anishnaabek (Ojibwe language)

A sort of "map" of the visible pictographs

Most of the pictographs on this half of the chart were too far out on the rock for me to have seen

The rocky Superior shore

Another picture of the shore

Stairs I climbed between two cliffs to get back to the parking lot

Looking back down the stairs

A view of the lake from the Agawa Bay lookout

Another look at the island

The mountains of the Canadian Shield

Looking down the road

The Awausee Trail map -- I took this picture so that I could have the map with me as it was more detailed than the one in the guide

The start of the Awausee trail

A view of Agawa Mountain, which I was about to hike up

A view of another (unknown) mountain in the distance -- note that the clouds are touching the tops of the mountains

A trail marker

The first lookout point over Lake Superior
