all of our LED rope light was delivered this week, and we started building our invasive species light network today.

this week has been lasercutting week for our acrylic shrines.













each house has 5 acrylic pieces. for 200 houses, thats 1000 pieces of acrylic we cut this week.
whew.

whaddya mean this might be dangerous?



we got one of our solar panels to power a tv and dvd player today for our prairie installation.



the tv is AC power, but is actually fewer watts (53) than a more expensive DC with a smaller screen.
the solar batteries hold 12v, but only run 5 ampers - and the entire load takes 5 ampers per hour to run. so we're trying to see how long it would take for one solar panel to charge five rechargeable batteries.

this weekend we began fabrication of the 200 shrines which will go in the peony garden.
steps 1 & 2 - cut acrylic sheets on the woodshop table saw. then sandblast to achieve that milky white appearance.

Matt Coolidge from The Center for Land Use Interpretation was a visiting artist at U of M's School of Art and Design this week. He had some great advice and feedback about our project, from super excitement over the invasive species network to suggestions about how we could submerge our units for the prairie installation (rubbermaid trash cans).
