On May 29 & 30, 1999, the Ann Arbor Highlanders competed in the Grade IV MSR and medley competitions at the Alma Highland Festival. In attendance were pipers P/M Jean Woods, Ewan Macpherson, Richard Burton, Tom Kennedy, Bob Droppleman, Donald Wilson, and Jim Belcher (on the 30th); drummers Dave Montcalm, Carolyn Lyons, and Mark Bartley (bass). Our usual sizeable retinue was on hand to provide logistical, moral, and multimedia support.
In the MSR competition, we finished in the middle of the field with "a robust sound for only 6 pipers". While we did not fare quite so well in Sunday's medley competition, various members of the pipe corps gave a good account of themselves in solo competitions.
