OUTCOMES

The following are a list of outcomes and activities related to educational media and technology graduate course work and Michigan Sea Grant projects.

Outcome 1: Solve problems and make decisions in professional practice through the use of:

1.1  Research: I have demonstrated this through writing research papers and providing pedagogical references to support a theory.  I have also researched teacher reference material for Web sites and lessons.

Activities
Pedagogical Assignment: two papers about key edmt topics, such as the digital divide (e.g., http://www-personal.umich.edu/~elzblap/pdf/digitaldivide.pdf). Research for many different assignments (e.g., WebQuest Web Page http://www-personal.umich.edu/~elzblap/WebQuestWeb/index.htm) and preparation for edmt 603 group assignment. Writing a critical issues paper focusing on distance education.
For edmt 653, I produced 2 primary products: 1. Federal Grant Proposal and 2. Research Paper focusing on ISTE technology standards and systemic change in education.
Research paper about International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) NETS (technology standards) and opportunities for a new science program to address technology standards.
Technology and Systemic Change in education summary web site
Grant proposal that I co-authored -- focused on scientific inquiry, and environmental literacy, with a strong education evaluation component.

1.2  Reflective inquiry: I have demonstrated this through writing about field experiences, and through individual assignments focused on developing inquiry-based lessons and writing about inquiry-based education.

Activities
Reflection about field experience (e.g., 602, observation about technology use in landscape architecture course). Curriculum development and evaluation of lessons (e.g., 603, three lessons about increasing teacher competency in teaching computer skills, and evaluation component to online curriculum). Assessing a variety of Web sites (602 assignments and Fresh & Salt).
627: Technology review of classroom - field assignment

1.3  Knowledge of learning and development: I have demonstrated this through readings, reports and research for assignments.

Activities
Incorporating key methods of teaching and learning into assignments (e.g., inquiry-based content, constructivist approach to education), specifically papers and web sites. Completing the 603 learning community assignments and discussions about professional development provided a lot of insight into practical application of educational theories and methods of teaching. Completing the 628 learning skills assessment was useful for incorporating multiple methods in teaching (e.g., speaking vs. writing, in-person vs.distance, group vs. individual work). Research paper about International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) NETS (technology standards) and opportunities for a new science program to address technology standards. Technology and Systemic Change in education summary web site

1.4  Knowledge of diversity and cultural context: I have demonstrated this through discussion with classmates, course readings and writing papers.

Activities

Awareness of limitations related to the access to online curriculum, and support for a variety of programs that focus on inquiry-based learning but may not have a technology component to accommodate schools/teachers with limited connectivity. Also, readings and an in-class session on assistive technology informed our 627 Group Portfolio project, regarding a model classroom design.

1.5  Knowledge of subject matter and/or professional knowledge: I have demonstrated this through course material, in-person contact with K-12 educators, and surveys, as well as research papers.

Activities
