Assignment 2: Who is the enemy?

I seem, for some reason, to get more of a response when I make it a class requirement. So:

Respond to the question I raised in the discussion section of Ctools either after you’ve done the reading for Wednesday or both before and after. It might be interesting to offer your first reaction, just based on your own reading and thinking since 9/11, and then later (probably also after others have responded) to respond again based on the readings. Ideally we can get into a lively discussion that continues in class. You can then hand in a typed response on Wednesday, which could either be just copying and pasting the response(s) you wrote on CTools or a more refined statement of your current view. It should include some reference to the readings for Wednesday that you thought helped you answer the question. One page or less unless you copy and paste your CTools discussion and that turns out to be more than one page.

Optionally, you might take this a bit further and ask why the enemy has made the United State its enemy or, as it’s often phrased, “Why do they hate us”? That might already be implicit in your discussion of who the enemy is.

Consider this option: Find what you regard as a better article than those assigned for Wednesday (or at least a very worthy one) that helps you answer the question. Post the link to the article along with your response on CTools.
