American Academy Of otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Microvascular Committee

We are a group of head and neck surgical oncologists, microvascular reconstructive surgeons, and head and neck oncology researchers assessing the types of hypopharyngeal reconstruction being used nationally following failure of concurrent chemoradiation for hypopharyngeal and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, the associated rates of pharyngocutaneous fistula formation and post-operative complications with these reconstructive techniques, and speech and swallowing outcomes.

Our goal is to determine if there is an optimal technique for reconstruction of the hypopharynx in the setting of previous concurrent chemoradiation that minimizes post-operative complications.
