Presenting the one ... the only ... Eric!
I feel a strange connection to folks who share my given name. That
little moment of weirdness when you're introduced at a party : "I'm Eric" ...
"So am I" or "I'm Eric too" or some such. It's sort of interesting for
me, then, to make a list of famous folks, real and fictional, with whom
I have that connection. Sometimes it's gratifying, sometimes it's
frightening.
I recently (2004-03-05) found this interesting page with a lot of information about my name, and
a much longer list of various Erics.
Erics of the world
- The Phantom of the Opera
- Erik the Viking (as in the movie, not just any viking named Eric)
- Erik the Red (famous real Viking, father of Leif Eriksson, the first European to
sail to the New World)
- Harry Houdini (Erich Weiss)
- ERIC,
the Educational Resources Information Center, the world's largest
database of information related to education
- Eric Draven, hero of
The Crow
- Eric Menendez, (of "Lyle and" fame).
- Commandant Eric Lassard, of the Police Academy movies.
- Eric Idle, of Monty Python fame
- Eric Qualen, John Lithgow's evil madman in Cliffhanger.
- Prince Eric, the Little Mermaid Ariel's prince -- actually a fairly
normal guy as Disney princes go. But he is a prince. And he did
marry a mermaid
- Dr. Eric Varnoff, Bela Lugosi's character in Ed Wood's Bride
of the Monster -- go see Ed Wood, not Bride of the
Monster.
- S. Eric Meretzky, creator of the legendary Zork games.
- George Orwell (Eric Arthur Blair)
- Max Magnus "Eric" Lensherr aka Magneto of X-Men fame.
