Session 17

Duties

One by one my cousins filtered out of the room, until just Gerard, Gwyn and I were left remaining. I asked her if she was truly going to be okay, and she wasn't sure, given that an assassin had so easily taken out Cadaes. How soon until she was a target? I suggested she might hire a bodyguard, and when she couldn't think of someone to fit this position, I cleared my throat...

Gerard left the room as we began to bicker over the logistics of this idea. Truly, other than the things I was doing for Random, I had little purpose or obligations to keep me from being her bodyguard. Plus and also, Gwyn as the High Priestess of the Unicorn is a valuable asset to us all.

Not to mention that I didn't want anything to happen to her.

Finally she agreed, as long as this would be on a temporary basis. I would begin training another to try to fill my shoes as soon as all of the surprise of this situation calmed down. If it will calm down, of course. Considering all the prophetic shit being flung around these days, who knows?

She caught me on the way out of the manor. "We should report this." I agreed, for a couple of reason, mostly thinking of Random's face when he learned of all this. And it was quite a sight. Most of my amusement wore off, of course, when the more serious subjects arose -- how the congregation was going to take all this, Cadaes's plans for the integration of the Church and Family Amber... Even the reforging of Redemption. Gwyn was rightfully concerned of being too chummy with the crown, at which Random agreed, but he gave here a few ideas to think about.

With a last smirk at Random, we left, and then Gwyn went home, me warning her not to stray out alone without contacting me. I thought about what I should start planning on doing, but sunrise convinced me that I need some rest.

Late morning in Amber; I got ready for the day ahead by plunking down a wad of dough on a couple dozen roses, and then Trumped Bailes. I went to her, at the site of my previous blunder, and presented a small, soot-streaked figure with my gift. I'm really quite lucky that I've found a woman who can put up with me, and I looked at the place in more detail. Bailey was really whipping it into shape.

Later, we returned to the castle, and after she had bathed, I looked at her, and she me. I could feel her presence in the silence that we shared, and so I leaned forward to close her eyes with kisses four.

Lunchtime came and went.
