Knight to Queen

What hedonistic, gaudy displays these Inns have become with the advent of time and technology! Personal manservants to provide pleasures of food, body, and even scented vapors to stimulate one's vigors -- I find myself glad for my ignorance sometimes, even with the wonders that Mythos' technology brings.

After the rigors of returning from Chaos, and then tending to Mythos after she and Faust freed Herald, we'd holed up in this resort to lick our wounds. With Brand's assistance, I was able to draw Gabriel out of his hibernatory state -- an experience that I'm certain was more dangerous than it appeared. I believe that without Brand's help, there would have been a very good chance of joining the white tiger in that flat, featureless plain.

Upon heading back to Amber we discovered that no one seemed to be taking any calls. I'd detoured us to Arden Isle, where some robes and a bit of trickery got us into town unannounced. There was damage from armies that had attacked, but the town still stood. Our relatives were holed up at the castle, and for good reason.

Sarah's attack on Fiona had failed, and now they both had retreated to the old castle. We know not what to expect -- our guess is to try to incapacitate her with the Pattern and the concert of all of our abilities. There's a very good chance that we may not return, but I see no fear in my party's eyes. We all know what must be done.

There's no guarantees, but I think I may be able to preserve Fiona's soul within the artifact that I've preserved, if I get the chance. Most of my colleagues seem happy to consign her to the Abyss, but I wonder if there's any chance for salvation, and if so, we are obligated to do what we can. Only time will tell.
