Connections in Win95
Why would you want to have multiple connections set up in Win95?
- Because you have more than one person who authenticates at that station.
- Because you want to be able to choose multiple dialin lines.
- Because you are using more than one Internet Service Provider.
- Because you were curious, and decided it was cool.
How can you create multiple connections in Win95?
- Click on the "My Computer" icon on the Desktop.
- Click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon in the window that comes up.
- Click on the "Make New Connection" icon in the window that comes up.
- Type a name for the new connection... Something like:
Hubby's Line
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Type in the phone number for the new connection.
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the "Finish" button.
- Click on the new icon (with the name you specified above) with the
right mouse button, and choose "Properties" from the menu that comes up.
- Click on the "Server Type" button.
- Make sure the settings in that window are:
- PPP:Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet
- Log on to network is NOT checked
- Enable software compression is checked.
- Require encrypted password is NOT checked.
- The *ONLY* network protocol that's checked is TCPIP.
- Click on the "OK" button.
- Click on the "OK" button.
The only other thing you might have to change is the authentication
information. To do that, you actually have to connect with your new
connection, and type in the authentication information in the familiar
boxes. Authentication information is saved with the connection, so it may
be convenient to set up a different set of connections for different users.
