In Vermont

My name is Dave Whipp. I was born on 9 March 1980 in Pontiac, MI, grew up in Clarkston, MI and now live in Ann Arbor, just off campus from the University of Michigan. I was an undergraduate at the University of Michigan and completed my BS in geology with a physics minor in December 2002. Currently, I am a PhD candidate in the Geological Sciences department at the University of Michigan. My research focuses on 3-D modeling of long-term mountain range evolution, specifically in the Nepal Himalaya. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, playing ultimate, hiking, canoeing, photography, disc golf and just about anything outdoors. I have a wonderful and beautiful wife, Alyce, who finished her masters degree in Public Health at U of M in 2005. She is currently a research coordinator at the Kellogg Eye Center in the UM Medical System. I have a younger sister, Megan, who lives in Kalamazoo and graduated from Northern Michigan University in December 2004 and is now a graduate student at Western Michigan University. My mom and dad, Mary Ann and Dave, live in Clarkston, MI, but spend much of their free time at our cabin in Boyne City, MI with our dog Picabo. I also have an odd cat named Nutmeg and she is featured in the pictures section. She has an exceptionally small head.

In case you were wondering, I am dwhipp. dwhipp is my uniqname, assigned to me by the university. It is a 3-8 character *nix system login name that I can use to check email, view grades, schedule classes and perform other university-related things. Pretty useful, but not necessarily interesting.
