Season Schedule, Reporting
Games, & Challenges
- Schedule of Games
-
Every new season means a new Cup for which teams compete. There is
a regular season period to determine seeding for the postseason(playoffs).
When regular season concludes, post-season begins(there is no week
off for teams, with the exception of occasional byes under certain
circumstances). After the playoffs are concluded and a new champion
is crowned for that particular Cup, all teams get a week off to recoup
before the next season starts!
-
REGULAR SEASON
Each team within a division will play two matches against every other
team in the same division and one match against every other team outside
their division. Currently, this means a team will complete 10 matches
during the regular season. The order in which the matches are played
does not matter, excepting that a team may _not_ play the same opponent
twice in a row. This means that coaches have to be sure and schedule
their intra-division matches responsibly. There is also no mandate
on how quickly or slowly matches get played, with the exception that
team's should finish their regular season matches by the deadline
for regular season ending. Regular season lasts 10 weeks(with occasional
exceptions)- which means that teams should try to at least average
1 match per week so as not to risk any unplayed matches. The penalty
for such missed matches is obvious...
-
POST SEASON
Once all teams have completed their regular season matches or the
regular season deadline is reached, post season gets underway. Teams
are seeded based on their regular season record. Should two teams
have the the same record, the first tie-breaker is their regular season
head-to-head record(better head-to-head record wins), the second is
Team Rating(higher team rating wins).
- The play-offs proceed as per the image below...
But...
only 8 teams can go to the quarter-finals, so to determine who will
get 7th and 8th seed, the bottom four ranked teams will have to face
off in a special contest- the Toilet Bowl!!! The winner gets 7th seed,
the runner up 8th, and the biggest loser gets a special Toilet Scrubber
Trophy that acts as a trophy reroll(i.e. a TRR usable once per match)
which they keep until the next Toilet Bowl when they will hopefully
be able to pass it off to some other unfortunate soul.
-
Once
that is decided, the Quarterfinals commence. The losers of each round
get a consolation match with the other loser within their bracket.
Thus if after the Q-finals 8th, 4th, 6th, and 7th seeds were eliminated,
8th and 4th could play each other in a consolation match, and 6th
could play 7th. Should both coaches wish, the consolation match can
be ignored, but if only one coach wants to play the match then the
other has to either agree to play or forfeit and suffer. Losers of
the Semi-finals get a similar consolation match.
-
THE
GLITTERING PRIZES!!!
Each season coaches compete for one of four major trophies. The
Spike, Dungeonbowl, Chaos Cup, and Blood Bowl. The prize and purse
differ for each one as follows.

- Reporting
Games
- After
each match it behooves coaches to report their matches and team data
to the commish so that he can keep the webpage up to date. There are
three important pieces of data that the commish needs at his disposal
in order to keep things rolling.
-
- The
Season
Standing stats(W-L-T; PF/PA; CF/CA; Team Rating; Home/Away; Streak)
- The
Injury
Report stats(Lasting SIs- given/taken; Lasting Kills- given/taken)
- The
Season
Leader stats(Any player that deserves to be recognized for his
deeds!)
- The
winning coach should also provide the list with a colorful(or at least
accurate) account of the match that took place. If all coaches provide
timely and up to date info about their teams then the commish has no
excuse to not provide the best looking site possible!!! =)
- Challenges
- Throughout
the season, most coaches will gladly schedule matches against each other
and complete them in a timely fashion. Yet sometimes a coach may decide
that he doesn't wish to play another coach. It happens. And when the
coach that really wants to play the match has had enough of waiting,
his only recourse is to issue a challenge!!!
- In
order to issue a challenge a coach must do/fulfill the following:
-
- Submit either a message to the group or at the least to the opponent
and CC'd to the Commish stating explicitly the intent to challenge(Putting
"Challenge" in the Subject line usually works).
-
- Cannot currently have any other issued challenges outstanding. This
means that coach Jones cannot issue challenge to two separate people.
He must first finish out the first challenge he made before he may
make another.
- Challenges are scheduled/enforced in the order in which they were
received. In the event that two coaches both issued challenges that
would impact the other at roughly the same time, and there is a dispute
as to which was sent first, the Commish will use the time marked on
the messages _he_ received to determine which challenge has precident.
- When a player receives a challenge, he can either accept it, forfeit,
or try to work out some sort of deal with the challenging coach(in the
event that he simply wants a bit more time). Further, the challenging
coach _can_ drop the challenge if he wishes to play someone else, but
then he must allow the former challengee to play at least one match
against someone else(this prevents someone from playing Beardy and dropping
the challenge for long enough to play another match and then reissuing
the challenge immediately thereafter).
- Are there ways to "get around" getting challenged? Yes and no.
Were a coach to be challenged by several people, the sheer amount
of waiting by the last coaches to challenge could turn them off from
following through on it. A good coach will try to stay aware of what
other coaches in the league are doing while maintaining a sense about
his own team and who he should be playing. If a coach is proactively
seeking out opponents and scheduling matches regularly, then he will
likely never be challenged(unless he's ducking someone that wants
to play him).
-
A coach _could_ try to schedule games so that he may avoid a coach
for a few matches, but in order to do so he'd probably have to bribe
other coaches to challenge him which ties up both their matches and
his. Furthermore, any coach who seemingly tries to use the challenging
system in order to undermine it will most likely find some of his
players suspended for his next match(along with any colluders).
All that being said, challenges are _not_ the standard method of
scheduling games. Rather, they are a special means of forcing an "unwilling"
opponent to get off his duff and play!
*FINAL NOTE: Anything deemed unbalancing or simply in need of changing
will be removed, altered, or edited by the Commissioner as he sees fit.
Ain't power grand? =)
