What Vanity license plate did/would you get, and what does it mean?

The answers (in order recieved):

  • NURBURG. The village in Germany around which the mighty Nürburgring was built. It's where I raced. I wanted something like DER NURBURGRING or DIE NORDSCHLEIFE (the Northern Loop) or even DER RING but it was hard fitting that in seven letters. So, NURBURG it is. I was surprised it was available. One of three US plates I've seen on the Nürburgring was from Michigan. It's not like nobody knows about it here.

  • Don't have one, and considering I don't have a car it's not exactly an option. :) It would probably be something Bowie or Xena-related, however!

  • FEATURE, because it's not a bug.

  • Turbo, because that's the name of our dog!

  • MOX JET. one of the "power nine" of mtg.

  • I just have a USS New Jersey plate. It's a good cause, and I get to say that I have a battleship on my plate.

  • I like mine, it starts with ELV so I think of it as my Elvis plate.

  • CAR - or - (depending on color)
    GRN CAR
    RED CAR
    YLW CAR
    WHT CAR
    BLK CAR

  • WHOOO! I can answer this one! PREFECT See, I drive an F150 full sized pick-up truck...you know...a Ford Prefect? Yeah. Well, it caught me by surprise when they told me I had to turn in my license plate of 11 years (and were going to give me something like WXG 830 or something equally horrid and immemerable) and the only really good vanity plate I'd ever come up with was PREFECT. I'm lucky it was open, otherwise I'd have CHEESE or something.

  • I would get PEACHY in honor of my beloved kitty.

  • probably Nif. you know why.

  • I have had many thoughts on this matter, and never arrived at a satisfactory conclusion. Which is probably why I don't have a vanity plate. Although from time to time I have considered Smithee-awards-related or They-Might-Be-Giants-related plates.

  • BASSLVR. It means Bass Lover. Duh.

  • yellow - cuz its the color of our car

  • I would get a vanity bumper sticker that says "I am too vain for vanity plates"

  • Many years ago it was "ESC4P3" to comemorate all the copies of Journey's Escape I wore out. Now it would be something geeky like "FOR NEXT" or "NOT EOF" or some other programming term.

  • KA2YSU. It's my ham radio call. Yep, I'm a geek, but not as much as you might think: In my native state, ham operators can have their call put on their plates free, with the understanding that they may be identified and called upon to assist in emergency situations while on the road; in Michigan where I live now, there is no such break, and so I'm paying to geek out where as it normally would be free. :)

  • Thes - Well Some would say it means The S, but they are wrong, And peope who think it is the article but pural are just fired. Really, it is Ubergeeky, because it is indeed my online name.

  • ELX 604 - It's not a vanity plate, but it is my most favorite license plate of all because it belonged to my first car.

  • When I have both extra cash and motivation to do it at the same time (I usually have one or the other), I'll be getting BLZBUG for my Beetle. It means Beelzebub, except it is a bug, so it is Beelzebug. I wish I had been clever enough to think it up.

  • I think I decided once that it would be "RULE 17", from Strunk and White's admonition to "Omit needless words". Actually, I'd kind of like something like "HELP" or "STOLEN", but those are probably taken.

  • Maybe "piglet." When I was young, and perhaps a little bit now, I seemed to have a timid personality similar to piglet from the Winnie the Pooh cartoons. Then when I learned to do Piglet's line, "Oh, d-d-d-deaaar," my mom loved it so much that piglet became sort of a pet name for me.

  • 59C 011 Because that's what it is now and I can remember it, and I'm not a dumbass to get personalized plates.

  • Hmmm of all of them, I still think UKC UFO is the best. I saw it once on someone elses car - ever since I thought is would be a fun plate to have for a year or two. Backwards.

  • leina

  • STIK SAV ... hey, I'm a goalie, what do you think Stick Save means?

  • 'NEVIK' (did get it... and it means "it's an anagram, not 'Kevin' backwards, because 'Nivek' sounds dumb" (and it was my first D&D character (and my UofM CAEN id/uniquename (and my handle on Game:Guild (and... yeah)))))

    My answer:

I would take 7 Boggle cubes, roll them randomly and put whatever ensued on theplate just to confuse people on the highway. Trying it now I get GMBESSV
