What was your favorite fad of the past 20 years?
The answers (in order recieved):
Grunge. It's kind of how I dress half the time anyway.
Hmmmm...I guess either disco and all of its accompanying wackiness
or pretty much everything from the 80's, especially the Madonna look and
geek
chic, and androgynous New Wavers in makeup.
Strawberry Shortcake Dolls
Where else can you find a 5 3/8 inch piece of
plastic with a stupid grin that smells like fruit?
Don't answer that.
Do you remember "Break Dancing?" It existed way back when MTV used
to show music videos. It was always fun to watch the 'cool' kids spin,
sprain, break and abrade themselves while trying to imitate the music
videos...
Thong Bikinis
Tomagotchi.
Well, being as tho I've only been alive for the past 18 years,
there could've been something really fabulous in those other 2
years...So in
all fairness, my favorite fad of the past *18* years has to be tye-dye
crap.
I admit it, I'm a full-blooded 80's child and a tye-dye freak to boot.
I
have tye-dye blankets, sheets, pillows, shirts, a hat, pants (oh and
they are
absolutely funky), plates, bowls, and a key-holder deally.
shrinky-dinks!!!!
Hurm...how about the whole "big hair" fad of the '80's?
80's melodic metal music!!!
Has to be either gay porn or Rush Limbaugh. With either you get
that deep, down, unclean, loathing, hatred, thing going. Noone can
explain
the popularity of such things but the evidence is there before our eyes.
Millions of Americans love gay porn and Rush Limbaugh. They can't live
without it. The connection is obvious. Whenever a man becomes so
conservative
that he will only share his body with one of his own sex (I mean really,
after all, what are those saggy handles on the front of women anyway)
and
begins to only enjoy same sex reading material then he would naturally
become
drawn to the King of Konservatism. From capital gains tax reductions to
overhauling Welfare and Social Security the mind can easily drift over
to
thoughts of graphic depictions of sodomy and oral satisfaction. I can't
think
of any other fads in the last 20 years that have had more impact on MY
life.
jelly bracelets- i still have them all in a box in my closet. i
hear they are coming back in style :)
many people don't even know the difference between a fashion and a
fad....but let's see, fav fad....snap bracelets...they were WAY cool,
and if
you used them too much, they got way bent outta shape and stuph....
I can't say I am much into fads, but one that
has amused me is the 'remember Woodstock' fad.
A one-time, accidental coming-together of the
unsettled youth of the late 1960's, which was based
on the ideas of love, peace, anti-establishmentarianism,
and really good music, has been revisited for what
seems to be financial gain. I wouldn't say it was
my favorite to participate in, because I didn't,
but I found it humorous and ironic, and as fads go,
at least many of those who attended seemed to
hold those fine old ideas.
I hate to say it.... cheesy 80's pop rock music
Donald's question of the week
"Pogo ball is what they call it..."
How can I pick a favorite? Maybe big hair... Big shoes... big
belts... big socks...
Those cheesy plastic flowers that dance around
when you put them in front of the radio. They
were a strong statement of stupidity and human
indecency. I always wanted one of those.
My fave fad???
Hmm...the most humourous one had to be the backward
pants style inspired by young "rappers" Kris-Kross.
That was so funny when boys in middle school copied
this. Some girls even got into it---thankfully
not me!
Garbage Pail Kids ... collecting, trading with friends,
annoying parents, making up my own
Pet rocks. Hypoallergenic, cheap, yet full of
personality.
SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My answer:
I loved when surfer shirts were the rage in about 1986. Maui & Sons,
Gotcha!, Quicksilver and T&C. Those shirts were the coolest. Thirlla
Gorilla ruled.
