Who is the most famous person you've ever met?

Question of the whatever for 2/25/02 to 3/6/02

The answers (in order recieved):
  • Marc Manley

  • Pete Seeger, the folk singer and activist. My aunt worked with him in New York, and he invited my family to spend the evening at his farm.

  • I once sold popcorn to Travis Tritt, but I was way more excited about meeting the guys in Great Big Sea and Lunasa and Danu and a bunch of other folky musicy types like that when they came to the Ark and other places around ...

  • Jimmie Stewart while I was in Viet Nam.

  • Whichever is the more famous of Penn and Teller.

  • Magic Johnson

  • Let me see depending upon your circle of knowledge... I've met George Bush (the first one), Bobby Orr, James Earl Jones, John Piper, Barry Sanders (with Screetch), Juwan Howard, Lynne Swann (but hey, I'm a tuba... of course I've met Swann-ie!) and I'm also met Kevin Bacon (or at least, I knew someone who knew someone who knew someone... ah forget it).

  • Bill Bonds, at the University Hospital. He was going up the escalator. I waved.

  • Rick Leech, Alan Trammel, and Dwight Hicks. They are the only famous people I have met that have a chance of remembering they met me. At least they will remember WHEN we met. In the parking lot outside of the ROSE BOWL!!! OH YEAH!!!

  • I guess it would have to be Mike Wallace. They just pulled us out of band practice to play for some fundraiser, I was tired, in a t-shirt and shorts, and there he was, backstage. And all I could say it, "hey, you're Mike Wallace!"

  • Hmm...I've met 15 people from the cast of "Xena" and one from "Buffy", my 2 fave shows. :) (Lots of Star Trek people too, and I don't even really like Trek that much, but I've gone to a lot of sci-fi conventions...oh, Claudia Christian from "Babylon 5" was a memorable one!) I've met (well, not necessarily had a real conversation with mind you, but at least an autograph or something) random music and film and theatre stars, such as Gina Gershon, Ethan Hawke, Lea Salonga, Anthony Rapp, Dar Williams, Judy Collins, etc. etc. (Oh, and some authors too!) I was in the audience of Conan O'Brian once, that was cool...oh, and I met Nadia Comaneci, the gymnast. And I've written fan letters and fan emails to people; from Jonathan Rhys Meyers I actually got an autographed photo back, yay!

  • Corey Lidle of the Oakland Athletics

  • Some of the famous people I've met: Steve Allen, James Earl Jones, Van Cliburn, George Carlin, Pete Seeger, Jay Leno, Fritz Hollings, Will Patton, Kyle MacLachlan, Albert Finney... I sat on Steve Allen's piano when I was a tiny little girl; met James Earl Jones when I was an usherette at the Corning Summer Theater and he came thru playing Othello; gave George Carlin a small piece of material for his act; gave Jay Leno a bear hug when I met him -- Then found out he had recently broken his ribs and I didn't know! -- Sneaked back stage at a Van Cliburn concert to get his autograph when I was a teenager; and met, saw and spoke with Will Patton at a neighbor's backyard oyster roasts on more than one occasion! How's that for a partial list?! *L*

  • Not including meeting people at conventions, because I don't know if that really counts, the closest would have to be King Martin, the father of golfer Casey Martin. If you include conventions, then my answer would be Walter Koenig. We gave him a Smithee Award trophy. He didn't want it.

  • David Cross, you know the comedian. He is the only celebrity I have met and amazingly enough, i met him twice. Once in a little New York City art gallery a few years ago when i was on an art trip for high school and then again over thanksgiving in Atlanta. I saw him in little five points in a store. Its so stange that he is the one I have seen twice.

  • Martha Byrne She is my favorite soap actress, and I've been watching her since 1985 on ATWT. I look just like her and back in 1996 1997, she filmed an independent movie here in my town, "The Marksmen". I went to the wrap party, introduced myself, and she signed my CD (she's a singer as well).

  • Mr. Rogers--I saw him at the pool one time, although he was dressed and leaving, and I was arriving. Thank goodness, because I didn't really want to see Mr. Rogers in a Speedo. He's the Speedo type. And he wasn't wearing a sweater either. That was disappointing.

  • John the ex-leper

  • I've never met a famous person. Is that sad or admirable? I guess my uncle is somewhat famous in certain circles but not too many people know about Nobel nominees for economics or remember who the chief economic adviser to George McGovern was. I once almost knocked Jerry Garcia down in the street in front of The Stone but that hardly constitutes meeting someone.

  • no one. but my gramma shops w/wayne newton's mother-in-law. well she knows wayne too, but she's way more excited about shopping with his mother in law

  • So far I've never met a famous person, at least no person who can be considered "famous".

  • I met Everclear at the Doheny Music Festival here in San Diego a few years ago. I always thought Craig was hot, but it turns out he's kind of a snot. Art was supercool, and Greg.... wow, he is so uber-good-looking in person, I had to fight the urge to become one with his t-shirt.

  • My surgeon for 20 years was considered the top pediatric surgeon on the planet when I was a kid, and was president of some big pediatrics association. He used to hang out in my room teaching me medical terms after teaching rounds. His partner Harrison (my secondary doc) pioneered fetal surgery. Both very cool guys. :)

  • I met Alex Trebek when I tried out for Teen Jeopardy. I met John Salley when we were at Planet Hollywood in Chicago for spring break 1996. I saw Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe on Friends) in Hollywood spring break 1999.

  • Princess

  • Russ Gibb. He himself isn't so famous, but his work, as the early proponent of the "Paul is Dead" rumor, has guaranteed him a measure of immortality.

  • I have met Mick Mars, Vince Neil, and Nikki Sixx of the rock band Motley Crue. I'd been a fan for years, but was never able to see them in concert back in the day because my father was so strict. When 'New Tattoo' came out in 2000, the band did an 'In-Store' album signing, and my roommates and I went. The guys were very nice, and we were able to get a couple of photos with them. It made seeing them in concert the next night even more awesome!

  • Ladybird (Lyndon B. Johnson's wife, for the historically crippled amongst you.)

  • Dolly Parton (when I was 4!) and Gene Simmons a couple of years ago.

  • I ran into some rap stars in an apartment complex's parking lot. They were in a limo, and I asked "What instrument do you play?" and they said "We Rap"

    my answer is

Geez. I tried really hard to come up with a non-sports celebrity, and I really couldn't come up with one. The closest I've come is briefly talking to Ray Bradbury at a book signing. Which I guess leaves Rick Leach, 1979 Rose Bowl MVP and former pro baseball player. Either that or hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne.
