What movie series had the biggest drop off in quality between the first movie and its first sequel?
The answers (in order recieved):
The Matrix
Dude, this is an easy one. Highlander. OHHHHHHHH yeah.
Between first movie and first sequel I'd have to say the Matrix series. I
think PVP Online nailed
it. "Those scenes where everything just slows down... You know. When Morpheus starts
talking."
Hmmm...The Matrix, maybe? :(
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
The Sandlot "series"
From the first Star Wars trilogy to the second. Jar Jar Binks??? What was
Lucas thinking??!!
Airplane! and Airplane 2 - Not only did they fully recycle and resuse the
same jokes from the original, but over and over again, they use scenes from the first
movie as flashbacks to the second, so you only get something like 10 minutes of original
film
I read: "What movie series had the biggest drop off in Italy
" Tough question!he original, but over and over again, they use scenes from the first
There aren't many movie series based on or in Italy. The Godfather comes to mind, but
not really. There's _The Italian Job_, original then remake. But a remake is not a
sequel and I haven't seen the remake.
Spaghetti westerns, then? _Per qualche dollaro in pił_ is just as good as _Per un pugno
di dollari_.
So I can't answer this question. But I enjoyed thinking about it.
Star Wars old trilogy vs. new. Not being a Trekkie, I can't comment on
whether that degradation is worse...
This is a good one. It's really tough if you limit it to a dropoff in quality
from the first movie to the first sequel, otherwise Godfather Part III, Rocky V,
Superman IV would fit right in. The question didn't specify whether or not to include
straight-to-video sequels or not, but I'm not going to count those, because then it
would be too easy. Thus, the "winner" is:
Universal Soldier and Universal Soldier: the Return. There were a few straight-to-video
sequels in between, but these were the only two to actually star Van Damme and make it
to theatres. Compared to Van Damme and Bill Goldberg, Dolph Lundgren is Laurence
Olivier.
Back To The Future II was simply ghastly in comparison to BTF I. However, I
found the third one to be a dramatic improvement.
Matrix.
No question: Blues Brothers. All I needed to see of the sequel was a brief
plot summary of Blues Brothers 2000, and that was horrible enough to make me cry. I
haven't actually seen the sequel, because I might do something violent.
Blade
(but when Jessica Biel got to be in Blade Trinity, that was a good recovery)
The Matrix, though it might have been a dropoff in potential rather than a
dropoff in actual quality.
Dumb and Dumber. The first was pretty good, if you like Jim Carey. The second
shouldn't have been made.
The Matrix. Though I'm not sure whether it was actually that the sequel was
worse, or just that it didn't feel so new and cool anymore.
Ghostbusters
I found the drop between Naked Gun and Naked Gun 2 1/2 to be fairly
precipitous. Naked Gun 33 1/3 was better than 2 1/2 in my opinion. There are worse
drop off that I can think of, but those are between sequel and subsequent sequel rather
than between movie and sequel.
Interesting question - I would say either Star Trek or Die Hard.... But you
know - I just thought of it ...... Rocky. Yes those have been dropping steadily - but
wait - did we expect anything less?
Highlander --> Highlander 2: The Suckening
Either Land Before Time or Mighty Ducks
Matrix
Has to be Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000.
the mask and son of the mask
The Lion King and the Lion King 2 - really think about it - as for animation
sake that one really rose to the top of the ol heap.
Jurassic Park was amazing, and then The Lost World came out and reminded me
of Godzilla - where the dino changed size ratio every scene. Terrible ending too.
hm..i would have to say..off the top of my head..dumb and dumber and its next
movie (dumb and dumberer) which was a prequel but none the less made later. because
dumb and dumber was a classic and dumb and dumberer sucked and should never have been
made and totally degraded the original.a
dont REALLY know but im guessing starwars. ya, they just keep getting worse.
well the scripts that is... the effects keep geting better... ya, i dont know!!!
Speed
Heh, I was thinking and thinking about this (and wondering if I could possibly
weasel the Star Warsian travesty in there) and then! Then I came up with THE ANSWER:
Highlander.
I even forgot that there *was* a Highlander 2.
STAR WARS.
Matrix
My answer:
I picked the question having just watched Bridget Jones's Diary 2. The first one was actually kind of quirky and clever.
The second was absolutely awful - there was not a single sympathetic character in the entire movie. I think I cede to the Matrix though -
I had forgotten how bad the second one was.
