The Collaborative Archaeology Workgroup (CAW) is a group of graduate students from multiple departments at the University of Michigan (including Anthropology and Classical Art and Archaeology) who share an interest in archaeological research, theory, and methods. We are dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research and facilitating the exchange of information among all students interested in studying the past through archaeological techniques. CAW sponsors an annual workshop in the fall term for graduate students at the University of Michigan, the Graduate Workshop for Archaeology and Material Culture (GWAMC). CAW is sponsoring a graduate student conference titled "Archaeology at Multiple Scales" on March 26, 2011. We are now seeking submissions for papers; for more information see the conference page. CAW was formed in the fall of 2009 to encourage and develop an interdisciplinary intellectual and social community. Its expressed functions include: 1. Supporting collaborative activities between departments and graduate students engaged in archaeological research. 2. Providing a forum for the free exchange of ideas and problems related to the study of the material remains of the past. 3. Organizing events aimed at facilitating intellectual and social interaction between archaeologists. 4. Providing a collective voice to present student concerns to the wider community. |
